Just under 30 square miles in size, Missouri City is one of the most diverse suburbs in Texas and recognized among the best suburbs to live in Texas.
It’s located about 20 miles southwest of downtown Houston and about 50 miles from the Gulf Coast.
The first railroad to operate in Texas, the Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railway (BBB&C), ran right by the land that would eventually become Missouri City, in the areas that are now Houston and Stafford. Two developers bought land directly on the route of the BBB&C, just a mile and a half from the first stop at Stafford's Point. The two developers advertised the land in St. Louis, Missouri, and surrounding areas; a later developer bought more acreage and also advertised in the St. Louis area, calling the new town Missouri City.
Today, the town’s nickname of the “Show Me City” serves to spotlight the town’s many attractions and activities — including over 390 acres of parks, lakes, sports complexes and trails.
