Laredo is located on the north bank of the Rio Grande in South Texas. It is the largest inland port on the United States-Mexico border. More than 47 percent of United States international trade headed for Mexico crosses through the Laredo port of entry.
Laredo, once the capital city of the independent Republic of the Rio Grande, is sometimes referred to as “The City Under Seven Flags.” It’s the only city in Texas to fly the Six Flags of Texas as well as the Flag of the Republic of the Rio Grande.
You may also have heard Laredo referred to as “The Gateway City.” Laredo is one of the oldest border crossings, and its vibrant, colorful bicultural lifestyle is reflected in its historic districts and architecture as well as its festivals, food, music, shopping and sports.
Laredo has a strong sense of tradition, legacy, history and heritage. The month-long Washington's Birthday Celebration festival is over 120 years old and includes several pageants, a parade, an air show, fireworks and a Jalapeño Festival. Other city-wide events include a birding festival, art walks, a winter festival, an international sister cities festival and a celebration honoring our Lady of Guadalupe, complete with a mariachi band.
With temperatures that can climb into the high 90s — and even higher — Laredo residents need an electric company they can rely on. Whether you’re new to town or a long-time member of the community, Reliant Energy is here to help you find the right energy plan for your needs.
