Frequently asked questions

Show all answers

The best electricity plan for your home depends on how and when you use energy. Consider whether you want a stable fixed rate, flexibility without a contract or a plan designed around specific usage patterns — like nighttime energy use. Comparing plans by lifestyle can help narrow your options.

When comparing electricity plans, focus on the rate structure, contract length and usage requirements. It’s also important to review how your average monthly electricity use affects your overall bill and whether the plan includes features like bill credits, rewards or added benefits.

A fixed‑rate electricity plan locks in your price per kilowatt‑hour for the length of your contract, while a variable‑rate plan can change month to month based on market conditions. Fixed‑rate plans offer predictable pricing, while variable‑rate plans provide short‑term flexibility without a long‑term commitment.

The best electricity plan for your usage depends on when you use the most power. Homes with steady daytime usage may prefer fixed‑rate plans for predictable bills, while EV owners, night‑shift workers or overnight users may benefit from time‑of‑use plans.

The price per kilowatt‑hour can change based on usage because many electricity plans use tiered or usage‑based pricing. Your average rate reflects how much electricity you use during a billing period, with pricing levels designed for lower, average or higher consumption.

In many cases, you can switch electricity plans, but timing and contract terms matter. While some plans include early termination fees, Reliant offers a 90-Day Satisfaction Guarantee that lets you switch to a different Reliant plan within your first 90 days without penalty. Reviewing your current contract can help you understand when making a change makes the most sense.

A fixed-rate electricity plan may be a good option in Texas if you see yourself staying in your home for a while and want the stability of a stable electricity rate. Your price per kilowatt-hour stays the same throughout your contract, which can make budgeting simpler. If you move frequently or you prefer more flexibility, another plan type could be a better fit.

Terms, conditions and other restrictions

1 Requests processed after 5:00 p.m. Central Time will be connected on the next business day. Same-day service is offered Monday through Saturday, weather permitting, where an existing meter is in place. No connections on holidays. Enrollment and permit requirements must be met before a request can be processed. Additional charges apply.

2 Your monthly bill will reflect your highest 2 days of usage per full week (Sunday through Saturday), up to 8 days per monthly billing period, at no charge for every billing period of 28 days or more. A week is defined as Sunday to Saturday, and a day is defined as a 24-hour period beginning at midnight through 11:59 p.m. For each monthly billing period less than 28 days, please see product’s Electricity Facts Label for details. Your average price calculation will be based on your average monthly usage. Reliant reserves the right to discontinue this offer without notice.

With the 24-month Flextra Credits plan, you are eligible to receive three bill credits (one $100 credit and two $50 credits), each of which must be utilized in a separate billing period during your term. You can apply bill credits within your online account, in the Reliant app or by contacting Reliant’s customer care team. Only one credit can be applied to any outstanding bill amount. Customers on AutoPay must redeem a bill credit up to 24 hours before the bill due date. Any unredeemed bill credits will automatically be applied during the last available bills of a customer’s term. Unused bill credits will not transfer if you switch away from the Flextra Credits plan and are not redeemable for cash.

You must be within a Reliant service area to transfer your service and transfer within the same transmission and distribution service provider (TDSP). Flat Bill plans are excluded. TDSP connection fees and additional restrictions may apply.

The only circumstance in which your actual price can change is to reflect changes in transmission and distribution service provider (TDSP) delivery charges, law or regulatory charges allowed by the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
