When outages are prolonged and affect a large area, utility companies may post temporary usage estimates if they’re unable to read meters. If usage appears for days when your home had no electricity, your Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU) should update and correct it soon.

Move to a safe place and stay away from flooded locations and fallen power lines. If you notice a downed line, call 911 right away to report it.
Plug devices into surge-protector power strips to help prevent damage and protect your electronics if the power goes out.
If the electricity goes out, you can create gentle, room-wide light by pointing a battery-operated flashlight or headlamp into the opening of a clear gallon jug filled with water. The water helps diffuse the light so it spreads around the room. For safety, never put the light in the water.
