You choose and sign up for an electricity plan with a retail electric provider (REP) like Reliant, but your local transmission and distribution service provider (TDSP) handles power outages. If an outage occurs, your TDSP is responsible for restoring service to your home.

If you’re starting service at a new address, your electricity start date depends on the service location, meter status and available scheduling options. In some cases, same-day service may be available or you may be able to schedule your connection up to 60 days in advance.
