Padre Island, which includes South Padre Island, is considered the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island, with approximately 70 miles of its 113-mile length protected as Padre Island National Seashore. Tips to make the most of your visit to the RGV

  • Hydrate. Summer in the Rio Grande Valley can be especially hot and humid. Always carry water with you to stay hydrated.
  • Protect yourself from the sun. Don't forget to apply sunscreen regularly, especially if you plan to spend the day outdoors.
  • Explore early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Temperatures tend to be coolest in the early morning or late afternoon. Plan your outdoor activities at these times for a more comfortable experience. Don't forget your mosquito repellent!
