Reliant and EarthShare Reach $2 Million Milestone
We're celebrating more than a decade of partnership with EarthShare of Texas, along with $2 million raised through the Reliant EcoShareSM program since 2011. By joining the program, Reliant customers lessen their impact on the environment and help contribute to clean energy initiatives.


Winter Storms
To support our neighbors in need after the unprecedented Winter Storm Uri, Reliant and parent company NRG Energy, Inc. made an initial $3 million commitment in cash donations to the communities we serve to address food and water shortages, temporary or damaged housing and the overall recovery effort across Texas.

To support frontline workers and the most vulnerable across Texas, Reliant donated over $1 million to COVID-19 community relief funds and initiatives. This donation is part of our parent company, NRG Energy Inc.’s $2 million donation to pandemic relief efforts.

Reliant and its parent company, NRG, donated over $1.2 million to organizations and initiatives that combat racial inequities, injustice and related violence. We remain committed to supporting progress in our communities.

The YMCA “Equity Innovation Center” powered by Reliant focuses on racism, diversity, inclusion and equality training for internal YMCA staff, board, and external nonprofits and corporations.

The National Urban League is a historic civil rights and urban advocacy organization providing direct services that impact and improve lives.

The Jaylon Smith MEI is the premier agency connecting impact investors to quality minority-owned investment opportunities.

CareerSpring helps first-generation college students succeed by providing the resources, network and social capital they need to capitalize on their career potential after graduating.

Comp-U-Dopt provides technology access and education to underserved youth. Reliant donated 500 computers to elementary school students in Northside, the highest-need neighborhood in Houston, and funded three years of after-school programming for students.

This club aims to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens by planning for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle.

HOPE Farm’s leadership program focuses on guiding at-risk boys to become men of integrity through academics, character building and working with teachers in order to maintain accountability and consistency.

Miles of Freedom works to equip, empower, and employ individuals returning home from prison and provide support and assistance for families and communities impacted by incarceration.

10 Dallas area YMCAs will serve as Active Equity Centers focusing on overcoming systemic issues in their neighborhoods.

The Workforce Development Program provides opportunities to explore careers and prepare youth with employability skills for future success. Clubs also connect teens to real-life work experiences such as internships and apprenticeships.

Career Gear Houston builds strong families and communities by empowering low-income men to overcome barriers and achieve self-sufficiency with financial literacy training and career development tools.

This initiative works to improve neighborhoods so that all of Houston’s residents and business owners can have access to quality services and amenities while ensuring existing residents can stay in homes that remain affordable.

The Greater Houston Frontiers Club is an organization dedicated to providing educational and monetary assistance to talented, deserving high school seniors across Harris County.

Winter Storm Relief
Our $10 million commitment includes funding to these efforts:

Community support
Supporting nonprofits that serve our communities with grants and pro-bono work addressing immediate needs, including food, water, and temporary or damaged housing.

Customer support
Providing direct financial relief to NRG customers impacted by the winter storm.

Employee support
Aiding affected employees by allocating additional funding to the NRG Employee Relief Fund, which assists those facing financial challenges immediately after a natural disaster or another unforeseen event.
NRG, Reliant’s parent company, has committed

American Heart & Stroke Association
Reliant teams up with the American Heart Association to support the CPR in Schools training program, the Kids Heart Challenge and the Houston Heart Walk, and we have raised more than $400,000 through the Reliant Heart Power plan.

March of Dimes
Over $1 million donated since 2002: that’s how much healthy babies mean to Reliant. Plus, our customers have helped us raise over $520,000 through the Reliant Baby Power 12 plan.

Kids' Meals
Reliant has partnered with Kids' Meals since 2017, providing over 77,000 meals to kids in need who don't have access to school-based free meal programs.

ACH Child and Family Services
ACH Child and Family Services brings needed resources and skills to children and families struggling with life’s challenges in Tarrant County.

American Cancer Society
Reliant has been an ally of the American Cancer Society for 16 years through our support of the Cattle Baron's Ball in Corpus Christi, Texas, which raises funds to provide cancer support services and research.

Medical City Children’s Hospital Kids Teaching Kids
Reliant supports 15 North Texas ISDs through Medical City Children’s Hospital’s Kids Teaching Kids, 21-Day Challenge. With the support of registered dietitians, the program challenges students to make their own healthy snacks for 21 straight days. Click here to learn more.

Galveston Bay Foundation
We are proud to support the Galveston Bay Foundation organization, which is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the health of Galveston Bay for generations to come.

Texas State Aquarium
Reliant is a longtime supporter of the Texas State Aquarium and in January 2020 was recognized as an Advancing “Aqua Society” Member. The Texas State Aquarium is a nonprofit organization located in Corpus Christi, Texas, that is dedicated to connecting people with animals, inspiring appreciation for our seas and supporting wildlife conservation.

EcoShare
The Reliant EcoShare program, with help from customer contributions, has raised nearly $2 million for EarthShare of Texas, a foundation that supports 40 of the state’s most respected environmental organizations.

Dallas Arboretum
Reliant supports the Dallas Arboretum’s mission of promoting the art, enjoyment and knowledge of horticulture. Additionally, we are a presenting sponsor for Autumn at the Arboretum and Holiday at the Arboretum.

Central and West Texas Zoos
Reliant supports wildlife conservation efforts and is a proud partner with the Abilene Zoo and Cameron Park Zoo in Waco with family programming and holiday events.

Dallas Zoo

Big Brothers Big Sisters
Reliant is proud to be one of the largest partners of Big Brothers Big Sisters' Beyond School Walls program, which prepares high school students for graduation and ongoing success.

United Negro College Fund
Reliant has sponsored UNCF scholarships for almost 14 years. Scholarships are awarded to students attending more than 1,100 schools across the country, including the prestigious network of 37 Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Cristo Rey Jesuit
Reliant is proud to support students through the Cristo Rey Jesuit Corporate Work-Study Program. Students are placed with businesses and nonprofits, where they earn up to 50 percent of the cost of their education and gain real-world job experience.

Powering Youth Education
The Houston Texans and Reliant have teamed up to help power a brighter future for students across Houston. Together, they are helping students connect to the classroom with technology, tools and programming students need to succeed and providing grants to high school athletics programs. They have awarded over $500,000 in scholarships to outstanding student-athletes to help make their college dreams come true.

LEAD First
Reliant partners with the LEAD First Foundation to prepare students for school and become leaders in their community. The LEAD First Foundation supplies materials, training and professional development to schools in Corpus Christi.

Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation
Reliant partners with the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation to improve literacy and break the cycle of poverty in Houston. In addition to providing financial support, over 20,000 books and volunteers, we partner with the Houston Rockets each year to host the annual community book drive benefiting the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation.

Space Center Houston
Reliant is proud to partner with Space Center Houston, a leading science and space exploration learning center. Additionally, Reliant is the presenting sponsor of Galaxy Lights.

Community

City of McAllen
Reliant partners with the City of McAllen and the McAllen Chamber of Commerce to sponsor four of the largest events in the region. We are proud to be one of the leading contributors to the McAllen International CarFest, MXLAN, Fiesta de Palmas and the McAllen Holiday Parade.

Dress for Success
Reliant believes in empowering women. That’s why we’ve supported Dress for Success for more than 15 years and donated more than $400,000 to this vital cause.

Warren Center
The Warren Center serves, empowers and advocates for children and families in North Texas impacted by developmental delays and disabilities. Their vision is to make sure all children, no matter their condition, reach their full potential.

Habitat for Humanity
Reliant has helped Habitat for Humanity build affordable homes for people across Texas for 15 years. In 2019, Reliant helped sponsor and build the Settegast Community Garden.

Community Assistance by Reliant Energy (CARE) Program
Our CARE program, made possible thanks to Reliant and customer contributions, helps customers who are facing financial hardship pay their electricity bills and has provided more than $12 million in statewide agency assistance since 2002.

Rebuilding Together Houston
Reliant has assisted Rebuilding Together Houston with home repairs for low-income homeowners for over 15 years. In 2020, Reliant provided window A/C units, air purifiers and box fans for 30 low-income families to stay safe at home.

Employee goodwill programs

Reliant Gives Vote
Through this unique program, we donated over $1.1 million to nonprofit organizations throughout Texas that are near and dear to our employees’ hearts.

Employee Community Ambassadors
Since 2016, Reliant has donated over $100,000 to help support grassroots organizations, such as local children’s athletic or extracurricular programs, based on employee nominations.

Volunteers Across Texas
Whether it’s organizing food drives, painting community centers, walking or running for a cause, or fundraising for nonprofits, Reliant employees are volunteering to make our home a better place.
