Yes. If your home already has solar panels installed and meets your Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP) requirements, you can earn bill credits for extra solar energy you send back to the grid. Eligible plans include the Reliant Solar Payback Plus plan and the Reliant Solar Payback Match plan, which are designed for customers who generate more electricity than they use at times.

A solar power plan can help reduce your carbon footprint while supporting renewable energy. With select Reliant plans, like the Reliant 100% Solar plan and Solar Payback Plus plan, you may be eligible to receive bill credits for excess electricity returned to the grid. It’s one way to make a positive environmental impact without changing how you use power at home.

You’ll still have power when the sun goes down. As long as there is no outage affecting the electric grid in your area, your home continues to receive electricity from the grid at night or during cloudy weather, even if your solar panels aren’t producing energy at that time.

It depends on the plan you choose. The Reliant 100% Solar plan lets customers support solar energy without installing solar panels by matching their electricity use with renewable energy certificates (RECs). Solar Payback plans are designed for customers who already have solar panels and want to receive bill credits when their system generates energy that flows back to the grid.

To qualify for a Reliant Solar Payback plan, your home must meet a few requirements. You’ll need a qualifying solar energy system installed at your home, or scheduled for activation, along with an active interconnection agreement with your local TDSP. In addition, your home must have a TDSP-configured meter that accurately tracks electricity sent to and from your home so bill credits can be properly measured.

You will still experience outages if the electricity grid in your area is experiencing an outage. If you are currently experiencing an outage, please contact your TDSP to get your power restored as quickly and easily as possible. Customers with eligible home batteries may also explore programs like the Battery Perks program, in which stored energy can be shared during times of high demand to help support the grid.

Terms, conditions and other restrictions

1 Your actual price will vary with usage and can change to reflect changes in law or regulatory charges.

2 The credit per kWh for the extra energy generated by your solar system that you send to the grid will be equal to the real-time wholesale electricity price or Load Zone Real-Time Settlement Price (RTSPP) for the 15-minute interval during which the energy was sent to the grid. It may take up to 3 billing cycles after receiving Permission to Operate (PTO) from your utility to begin receiving credits. To receive bill credits, a customer must have a qualifying solar energy system with a rated capacity less than 50 kW at the utility service address and an active interconnection agreement with the utility (or TDSP). The customer must have a meter installed and configured by their TDSP that measures the inflow and outflow of electricity to and from their home.

3 See Electricity Facts Label or contact Reliant for details on solar production credit amount. Credit value differs from the per kWh energy rate we charge for the electricity plan. It may take up to three billing cycles after receiving Permission to Operate (PTO) from your utility to begin receiving credits. To receive bill credits, customer must have solar panels at the utility service address and an active interconnection agreement with the utility (or TDSP). Customer must have a meter installed and configured by their TDSP that measures the inflow and outflow of electricity to and from their home. A dual-register meter beyond the Smart Meter may be required to measure generation and consumption. The customer’s home generation system must be connected to the grid by their TDSP to receive monthly payments for their surplus generation as reported by their TDSP. The customer must be located in a competitive ERCOT market. This plan requires the customer to have solar panels at their house and an active interconnection agreement with their TDSP.

4 Reliant purchases solar renewable energy credits sufficient to match the electricity consumption of our customers who purchase solar plans.

5 Qualifying Plans do not include electricity plans with renewable content greater than the statewide average for renewable content (content information is available in the plan’s Electricity Facts Label).

6 Your participation in the Make It Solar program will end at the same time as your participation in the qualifying electricity plan through which you were enrolled in the Make It Solar program ends or until your retail electric service with Reliant is discontinued. Enrollment in the Make It Solar program will continue if you move from one qualifying plan to another without a discontinuation of electric service by Reliant. You may cancel your participation in the Make It Solar program at any time by calling 1-866-222-7100. Cancellation will be processed by the next business day and will be effective at the end of your then-current program month. Changes will be reflected on your Reliant bill in up to two billing cycles.
