There are several factors to consider before relocating for a job, the most important being your family and relocation costs. It's a good idea to consider if this is a place that you'll enjoy living in, the cost of living and the state of the job market if you aren't relocating with a job offer lined up.

Moving can be expensive, even for local moves within the same state. You should budget at least $1,000 for relocation costs and prepare for other costs, such as fuel, packing and unpacking, or insurance. A local move on average costs $1,250 and a long-distance moved on average costs over $4,000.

The main benefits of relocating are a change of pace, the opportunity to make new friends, and furthering your career path. If you're moving to start your dream job or a higher salary, the relocation costs aren't as large of a negative factor. Relocation allows you and your family to embrace change and seek out new experiences.
