Electricity begins at a power-generating facility where renewable and non-renewable resources are converted from raw energy into electrical energy. 

Electricity transmission process

Once generated, electricity is then carried over long distances through high-voltage transmission lines. These lines move large amounts of electricity from power plants to regional substations.

Distribution and how electricity is delivered to your home

Retail electricity providers like Reliant, rely on local Transmission and Distribution Service Providers. These companies, also known as "TDSPs", own and maintain the power lines, substations and transformers that carry electricity through smaller local distribution lines, delivering power to your home.

This entire electricity delivery process happens in seconds, moving power from generation facilities through high‑voltage lines and into the local system that serves your neighborhood.
