Most Texans have a huge sense of pride when it comes to their state.

Whether born or bred here, there are countless benefits for people living in Texas. If you’re looking for a home to raise your kids and watch them thrive, this is the state for you.

On top of the well-known comforts like beautiful weather and Southern cooking, there are many opportunities and attractions – both natural and man-made – that will help prepare your kids for their future.

Natural wonders

Many people who haven’t visited or lived in Texas aren’t aware of the beautiful landscapes that spread across the state. From deep canyons to sandy beaches and mountainous regions, Texas has a lot to offer the nature lover and adventure seeker alike. Check out some of the natural Texas wonders below and find more information on them on the Trips to Discover website.

  • Big Bend National Park: As one of the largest national parks in the US, visiting this 800,000-acre park is a must-do for a wide variety of activities such as hiking, fishing, boating, off-roading and more.

  • Natural Bridge Caverns: Somewhere between 1 and 1.5 million years old, this underground cave system was discovered in the 1960s by a group of students. Made of Cretaceous-period limestone, it’s begging to be explored by you and your family.

  • Devil’s Sinkhole: If you want to shock and awe your kids, take them to the largest single-chamber cavern in Texas. The park centers around the sinkhole that houses anywhere between 3 to 5 million Mexican free-tailed bats each summer.

  • Palo Duro Canyon: Referred to by locals as the “Grand Canyon of Texas,” Palo Duro Canyon is the second-largest canyon in the state. Whether the family hikes, bikes or climbs, they’re sure to love this natural wonder.

  • Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve: Located in Dripping Springs, this nature preserve was naturally created thousands of years ago when a river collapsed. Bring the kids to swim into the cave and marvel at the limestone cliffs that surround the pool.

Amusement parks and fairs

Texas is not lacking when it comes to family-friendly fun. It’s filled with amusement parks and fairs of all sizes for year-round entertainment. Check out some of the biggest and most well-known attractions below:

  • Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor: Six Flags Entertainment Corporation offers two theme parks and two water parks in Texas alone. Whether you’re visiting the Dallas, San Antonio or Houston area, you’re sure to find a Six Flags or Hurricane Harbor location the whole family can enjoy.

  • SeaWorld San Antonio: People come from everywhere to visit the biggest marine life amusement park in the world. On top of water shows and land and water rides, guests can interact with marine life through some of the shows and by making other special arrangements.

  • County and State Fairs: County and state fairs are an important part of Texas culture. From rides and games to animals and food, there’s something for every member of the family. Check out texasfairs.com/events/texas-fairs for the closest locations to you.

  • The State Fair of Texas: According to their website, this is the most Texas place on Earth! The ultimate Texas fair was established in 1886 and is the longest fair in the nation, lasting over three weeks. Enjoy the exhibit halls, parades, food and fun at this legendary tradition.

The wild west lives on

If you’re looking for a Texas-sized slice of frontier flavor, you’ve come to the right place. From riding horses to school by day to wrangling cattle by night, some of these stereotypes just may be true. The whole family will love these Wild West-type attractions.

  • Rodeos: Spanish missionaries taught their ranch hands horsemanship many generations ago, and this eventually turned into rodeos with the American cowboy. Today, cowboys compete for money, Texas-sized belt buckles, trophies and more all over the great state.

  • Dude ranches: Here in Texas, some cattle ranches are converted into places for tourists to stay. You can take in everything a ranch has to offer – from wildlife to ranch-style food – at many of these peaceful retreats.

  • American West museums: Take the family to Fort Worth for their share of culture in the form of museums. From the Sid Richardson Museum to the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, Western art and history are just around the bend.

  • Stockyards National Historic District: If you want to travel back into the Old West, just step into the stockyards in Fort Worth. It has everything from the world’s largest honky-tonk to longhorn cattle drives that maneuver right down East Exchange Avenue twice a day.

Opportunity

According to University Review’s website, Texas has 43 public and 65 private colleges and universities. From community colleges to nationally renowned institutions, every type of educational opportunity is available.

After school, your kids will have plenty of opportunities to stay in Texas based on the diversity of the job market. From the private sector to the agricultural industry, the market is booming when it comes to jobs for any education level.

Now you can see why Texans have such pride in their state. Between the natural wonders, entertainment and education system, your kids will love it too!
