How the average price per kWh is calculated
Texas electricity pricing includes charges from Reliant and delivery charges from your TDSP/utility (CenterPoint Energy). The combined charges below divided by your total monthly usage equals your average price per kWh.
Reliant fees + TDSP fees ÷ Your total monthly usage = Average price per kWh

Earn bill credits with Reliant Business Degrees of Difference
Earn bill credits with Reliant Business Degrees of Difference
The Reliant Business Degrees of Difference program is an easy, rewarding way to help make a difference for the community and environment. You’ll earn bill credits for making small adjustments that conserve electricity during anticipated high-demand periods.
How it works
Reliant will email you the day prior to an anticipated period of high demand, requesting you reduce your electricity usage for a specified time period. During the hours of requested reduction, adjust the thermostat as little as four degrees, dim lights and turn off office equipment that's not in use. Every action can make a difference. And for making these small changes, you’ll earn $0.60 per kWh conserved for using less electricity than normal during anticipated high-demand periods.*
How it helps
Receive a Business Degrees of
Difference bill credit of $0.60 per kWh for using less electricity than
normal during specified reduction periods.
Get the satisfaction of knowing you’ve done your part to help the community by reducing demand on the electric grid.
Contribute to a better environment through collective usage reduction.
How does the Business Degrees of Difference program work?
The Business Degrees of Difference program will alert you via email to upcoming periods of high electricity demand so you can reduce your usage. During these high-demand hours, simply adjust your thermostat and hold off on using heavy machinery and large office equipment to help earn Degrees of Difference bill credits.
Will enrollment in the Business Degrees of Difference program affect my enrollment on my current Reliant plan?
Your participation in the Business Degrees of Difference program doesn’t affect your current Reliant electricity plan.
When will I receive the Business Degrees of Difference bill credit?
The bill credit will appear on your Reliant account within two billing cycles.
What special equipment is required to participate in the Business Degrees of Difference program?
No special thermostat or equipment is required other than a smart meter.
How will I know if I’ll receive a Business Degrees of Difference bill credit for reducing my usage?
A few days after the specified reduction period, you’ll receive an email summarizing the usage reduction amount and any bill credit that you earned.
What are some ways I can reduce my electricity usage during a Degrees of Difference event?
Here are a few ways to reduce your usage:
In the hour prior to the specified reduction period, you can pre-cool (in summer) or pre-heat (in winter if you have electric heat) your business by lowering the thermostat temperature to maintain comfort.
During the specified reduction period, adjust your thermostat setting by four degrees.
Postpone using heavy machinery or large office equipment until after the specified reduction period.
How do you determine my usage reduction?
We’ll compare your actual kWh use during the requested hours to your kWh use during those same hours over the previous five weekdays to get your credit amount. For every kWh conserved during that time, you’ll earn $0.60. (example: 10kWh x $0.60 = $6.00).
Why can't Reliant send the event notification earlier than one day in advance?
The situations that cause Reliant to request that you reduce usage are typically unexpected, such as a significant change in the weather or an unplanned outage of generation. So, we usually have only one day of advance notice that the demand for electricity will be high compared to the amount of available generation.
Terms, conditions and other restrictions
* Reliant determines a participant’s usage reduction by comparing actual kWh usage during the hours of requested reduction to the participant’s typical usage during the same time of day over the prior five weekdays. Participants with a usage reduction will receive a bill credit within two billing cycles following a specified reduction period.
