Reliant reserves the right to discontinue the Reliant Weekly Summary Email without notice. In the event Reliant receives incomplete interval data from your electric utility, Reliant may estimate your usage for missing intervals based on historical usage data from your meter. Weekly Summary estimates the usage and cost projected through the end of the billing cycle and will vary from your actual bill. A standard billing cycle is 29-32 days. The Weekly Electricity Usage is an estimate and is used to develop figures in the Weekly Summary Email. This usage estimate is based on regional averages and does not reflect your actual monthly usage. Your monthly bill provides your official usage determined by your local electricity utility. Reliant Energy Compare compares your home to 20-100 similar homes in your area with Reliant service. Your comparison group is chosen based on type of home (single-family or multifamily), location (zip code), age, size, type of heating source (gas or electric) and whether the home has a swimming pool. We then compare your home’s electricity usage with the average usage of the entire group during the same time period. “Efficient” usage is the average usage of the 20 percent of homes in your comparison group with the least amount of electricity usage.

Energy Compare

Let's face it. Human beings compare everything. Children's grades. Neighbors' cars. But what about electricity usage? At Reliant, we do the research to let you see how your electricity usage compares to similar homes in your area. So go ahead and see how your home's usage stacks up.

How it helps

Energy Compare gives you your home's usage alongside an average of more than 20 similar homes based on type of home (single-family or multi-family), location, age of home, size of home, type of heating source (gas or electric) and whether the home has a swimming pool. You can see your group's usage broken down according to "average" homes and "efficient" homes to find out where your usage could improve.

To analyze your home's usage against a larger sample of comparable homes, request a Home Energy Snapshot. You will get a more complete understanding of how your home uses electricity, plus energy-efficiency tips tailored to your needs. The Home Energy Snapshot is available to single-family homes in Texas powered by Reliant for at least 12 months.

How it works

Energy Compare is a feature built into your account management dashboard. Consult your dashboard whenever you would like to understand your electricity usage — and how it compares to that of your neighbors — in depth.

Home Energy Snapshot

Generated the moment you complete the request form, the Home Energy Snapshot leverages historical usage data to give you:

  • A report of your home's average electricity usage over the last year
  • A Home Efficiency Rating, based on comparisons with similar homes
  • Tips to improve your home's energy efficiency
  • A baseline with which to measure your home's efficiency progress

Home Efficiency Ratings are updated once per month, but you can request Home Energy Snapshots as often as you like. Snapshots requested before the next month's usage update will not include any new usage data.

To receive a Snapshot, your home must be at least one year old.

Start by requesting your Home Energy Snapshot online.

In-Home Consultation

If your Home Efficiency Rating indicates inefficiencies in electricity use, we may recommend scheduling an In-Home Consultation. At your request, a Reliant Home Energy Consultant will visit your home, review your Snapshot with you, thoroughly examine your home and leave you with your Closer Look, an at-a-glance guide containing your home's personalized assessment and practical solutions for improvement.

Within 48 hours of your In-Home Consultation, your Home Energy Consultant will send you your Big Picture, a detailed report that includes all the factors assessed during your consultation, plus specific actions you can take.

The In-Home Consultation evaluates your:

  • Home characteristics — such as age, size, type and number of stories
  • Heating and cooling system — including the fuel source, system size and SEER rating
  • Appliances
  • Thermostat type and automation
  • Return air system
  • Insulation type, location, depth and R-value
  • Ductwork design, connections, sizing, performance, seal method, type and R-value
  • Attic ventilation types and amounts
  • Window seals and caulking
  • Interior and exterior lighting

Call 1-855-887-2190 to schedule your In-Home Consultation. You can request an In-Home Consultation once per year.

Additional comparison tools

To compare your home with a smaller sample of comparable homes, you can use Energy Compare, available in the Reliant Weekly Summary Email and in your online account. Because Energy Compare measures your home against a smaller geographic area and a more limited group of homes than the Home Energy Snapshot, the comparison may differ.

1All features of the Home Energy Checkup may not be available to all customers. Some restrictions apply. Snapshots can only be generated for single-family homes that are at least one year old. The In-Home Consultation is only available to single-family homes in the Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex areas. Limit one consultation per customer each year. Scheduling is based on availability.

2Estimates are based on average consumption by comparable dwellings in the same area and are not are not exact predictors. Your electricity bills may vary. The Reliant Bill Estimator should be used for informational purposes only.

Usage Management FAQs

  • In the Projected Bill section of the My Account page, you can enter a dollar amount to set as your budget. By doing that, you can track where you are relative to your budget, and receive an email alert when your estimated cost-to-date exceeds your budget. To enter a new budget amount, simply type over the current budget amount and then click Set to save it.
  • Email alerts help you stay informed about your electricity account. We offer three email alerts you can sign up for in your online account. You can choose to be notified when:
    • Your estimated electricity bill exceeds a budgeted amount you set
    • Your daily usage exceeds a specified amount you set
    • Your electricity bill is due
  • If for some reason we receive incomplete data from your local utility, we will estimate your electricity usage for missing time frames using multi-day averages of historical data from your meter. These estimates can be used for the charts or other information presented.
  • "Other" accounts for several household appliances and electronics, but not your refrigerator or your HVAC unit. The items under "Other" include:

    • Lighting (interior and exterior)
    • Electronics (TV, game systems, stereo, computer)
    • Fans (ceiling, room)
    • Washer and dryer
    • Kitchen appliances (ovens/stove top, microwave, dishwasher)
    • Water heater (if electric)
  • Your monthly bill and amount due will reflect the actual usage data we receive from your local utility company. Several variables affect why your projected bill amount in Account Management may not match your actual bill and usage. There are times when we are missing specific usage data from your local utility company. When this happens, we will estimate your usage shown in charts and projected bill amounts based on multi-day averages of historical data from your meter. It's important to remember that your projected bill amount is simply an estimate, and won't include any non-recurring charges or days when you use significantly more or less electricity than you have historically. Additionally, the monthly meter read cycle may vary by a day or two, and the projected bill on your account uses an estimated meter read date.
  • Usage information will work for any customer with a smart meter. Most analog meters in Texas were replaced with smart meters a few years ago. The new technology in smart meters captures usage information in 15-minute intervals and transmits it to the utility company. Once Reliant receives the data from the utility company (often 24 hours after it is initially collected), we can format it and present it to you in your online account.
  • Seeing your cost information by day, week and month provides you with better insight into how you use electricity. You can identify times of increased electricity consumption and be better prepared to reduce your usage in the future. We also provide daily temperature data aligned with consumption data so you can see the impact of the weather on your usage.
  • Your daily cost includes all charges, taxes and fees.
  • The "Average Home" amount is the average usage of 20-100 homes similar to yours according to location, age, type (single-family/multi-family), heating source (gas/electric) and presence of a swimming pool. The "Efficient Home" amount is the average usage of the most efficient 20% of those homes similar to yours. If your usage is higher than you would like, you could try some of our energy-saving tips to lower your bill or a home improvement project designed to reduce your electricity usage.
  • Your local utility company collects your smart meter data, and we receive this data no sooner than 24 hours after it's gathered. As a result, usage information is delayed.
  • Yes. You will still be able to view usage information in your online account; however, the information may be inexact due to the way price changes occur with variable rate products. If a price change occurs, the projected bill amount will reflect the previous month's price, not the current price. If prices remain the same, the projected bill information will be accurate.
  • Because we receive frequent usage information from your smart meter, we're able to estimate your monthly bill amount. Although this projection is an estimate and won't include non-recurring charges, it will still give you a better idea of where you're headed so you can avoid surprises on your bill. You'll also be able to compare this month's bill with last month's to see if your usage has changed.
  • Because air conditioning typically has the largest impact on your electricity usage in Texas (approximately 60%), showing the daily temperature in conjunction with your usage enables you to visualize the correlation. This helpful insight will also allow you to make changes to your electricity usage habits.
  • Green Button is a new government initiative that gives companies like Reliant a way to simplify and standardize sharing electricity usage data with customers via a one-click download. We’re pleased to be one of the first electricity providers in Texas to offer Green Button — empowering you to become a more active participant in your electricity usage.

  • If you are having difficulties opening the XML file, save it to your computer and open the file using Excel.

  • Green Button allows you to download your electricity usage data in a consumer-friendly format that you can store on your computer. You can use your data to better manage and track your usage and electricity costs
  • Yes. To download your data, you must be logged into Account Management. The Account Management tool uses the latest data encryption technology.
  • No. As part of our commitment to maintaining customer privacy, we will never deliver your usage information to a third party. You can only download your electricity usage data using your Reliant username and password.

Weekly Summary Email FAQs

  • Reliant's projected bill calculation in your Weekly Summary Email and online account looks at the most recent rolling 14 days of usage to estimate usage for the rest of the billing period. There are times when we receive incomplete or estimated interval data from your local utility company – for instance, due to a power outage. When we receive incomplete or no data, Reliant will estimate your usage for missing intervals based on multi-day averages of historical data from your meter. Although this data will be used to display your estimated usage shown in charts and projected bill amounts, these are only estimates based on data provided by the TDSPs. The projected bill calculations are used exclusively to give our customers an estimate of their usage and next bill amount. As we receive updated information, we will adjust your account accordingly.
  • The Weekly Summary Email reflects your usage and electricity costs for the week as well as your estimated electricity charges for the current billing cycle. These amounts do not reflect the Balanced or Average Billing amounts.
  • This is the pie chart portion of your Weekly Summary Email. It is an estimated breakdown of each of your high-usage appliances based on your home’s profile, weather and average regional appliance usage statistics. Your usage data is updated weekly and is based on data from your local TDSP, which may be estimated. The usage will be shown with the following segments:

    • HVAC (heating and cooling)
    • Pool (if applicable)
    • Refrigerator (based on one refrigerator per home)
    • Base Load (any appliance always on besides the refrigerator)
    • Other (all other appliances not continuously on such as lamps, kitchen appliances, laptop computers, fans, etc.)
  • Your local Transmission Distribution Service Provider (TDSP) provides Reliant with usage data for your home’s overall electricity usage; however, the breakdown in your Weekly Electricity Analysis is an estimate of where you may be using electricity, such as in heating and cooling your home or keeping your refrigerator running. This estimate is based on regional averages and does not reflect your actual usage.
  • Estimates are calculated daily, and amounts for the current week and month are updated to reflect the latest usage.
  • Your base load includes electrical appliances in your home that are always on. For example, clocks, some appliances, TVs, DVRs, computers and printers in standby mode are included here. Although your refrigerator is most likely always on, since it’s a major use of electricity, we’ve broken this out into its own category.
  • This reflects all other usage that is not accounted for in the other major categories. Typical examples include appliances that are not on continuously, such as lamps, kitchen appliances, laptop computers, fans, etc.
  • Because the estimate is based on regional averages of usage, when your meter reports very low usage, we assume some percentage of that is to heat or cool your home. To learn more about how the Weekly Electricity Analysis calculates your home’s usage, see the question above about calculating your home’s usage down to specific appliances.
  • The categories that populate your pie chart are based on your public tax data by default. For example, if your public property tax appraisal data reflects a pool at your home, the pie chart will show a pool pump segment. If you do not have a pool or electric heat, you can simply adjust the default in the “Update your home profile” area.
  • Energy Compare provides you with insight into how your home’s electricity usage compares to similar homes in your area. Each week, we compare your home’s usage to an average of 20-100 similar homes based on type of home (single-family or multi-family), location, age, size, type of heating source (gas or electric), and whether the home has a swimming pool. “Efficient” usage is the average of the top 20 percent of comparable homes in your area with the least amount of electricity usage.
  • In some rare cases, your email provider may not display the images correctly or may not display them at all. If that occurs, you can click the link at the top of the page that says, “To view this email as a web page, go here.” This will enable you to see the images correctly.
  • You always have the option to unsubscribe by clicking on the link at the bottom of your Weekly Summary Email. However, we encourage you to continue to receive your Weekly Summary Email. Keep in mind that if you do unsubscribe, you can also find information regarding your electricity usage by logging in to your account online.
  • If you have more questions about your Weekly Summary Email that are not covered here, consult this sample Weekly Summary Email with explanations and benefits. Check out the comprehensive view of your account by logging into your online account. And, of course, you can always call Reliant Customer Care at 1-866-872-6644 for 24/7 service and support.
