We operate our facilities in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations. In the past year, we have participated in more than 250 air, water and solid waste or safety inspections conducted by regulatory agencies at our facilities.
"Right To Know" Toxic Release Information To meet the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements of providing an accounting for any of the 650 designated chemicals used or released into the environment by industrial facilities, Reliant Energy submits a report in the third quarter each year to account for those chemicals released in the prior year.
Annual Environmental Performance Reliant Energy is committed to operate our plants in a fashion that is protective of the environment and at the same time economically competitive. We constantly strive to operate our plants as efficiently as possible, which results in reduced emissions on a per unit of useful output basis. In addition, we have undertaken major capital projects that resulted in significant reductions in emissions of nitrogen oxides in 2003 and 2004 despite increased operation of our facilities.
