Reliant Energy has a portfolio of electric power and cogeneration plants with a total asset base of more than 15,000 megawatts in operation or under contract. We operate these assets with best-in-class operational and maintenance practices that ensure the generation of safe, reliable, economical electricity for our customers. We operate a diverse fleet with a range of dispatch types, fuel capabilities and plant technologies in markets across the United States.
Reliant operates a range of base load, intermediate and peaking plants to meet the dynamic requirements of customers in the markets we serve. With roughly one-third of our capacity in each dispatch category, Reliant is equipped to meet the variety of demand requirements of the market as part of our commitment to serving our customers.
Our plants burn a variety of fuels. As fuel is a key component of electricity generation, Reliant is able to optimize generation to match market demand with the most appropriate, least cost generation asset.
The Reliant fleet includes a range of technology types. Our coal fleet includes both the latest Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) technology, found in our Seward waste coal facility, and the more conventional pulverized coal units found elsewhere in our fleet. Gas technology ranges from new combined-cycle units to more mature steam and combustion turbines in locations across the U.S.
