We strive to make a difference through volunteerism, donations and other
charitable initiatives. Last year, our employees were able to devote more
than 13,000 hours to community service.
March of Dimes
Each year our employees help fight for our tiniest citizens through our involvement in the March of Dimes’ largest fundraiser, March for Babies. Since 2002, Reliant and its employees have contributed extensively to this worthy cause.
Our volunteers help to preserve wetlands, prairie, forest and marsh habitats at the Armand Bayou Nature Center. We help perform nature trail rehabilitation, potting of native vegetation for later transplanting along bays and bayous, and heritage garden rehabilitation.
Reliant and NRG employees donate new school supplies to Boys & Girls Clubs for under-served kids. In addition, our employee tutoring program helps youngsters with school work each week at three locations near downtown Houston.
This program helps change lives, one bike at a time, by helping children get to after-school events, tutors, mentors, and jobs. Reliant raises funds and helps build bikes in an assembly-line process.
Reliant-sponsored Bay Day is an event created by the Galveston Bay Foundation to offer educational and family fun activities regarding issues and influences impacting Galveston Bay. Reliant employees take an active role in Bay Day by sponsoring and assisting with the Karma Floating Classroom, running an energy-efficiency booth, an environmental booth and other volunteer assistance activities.
Reliant volunteers and raises funds for this two-day bike ride from Houston to Austin; the largest event of its kind in North America with 13,000 registered cyclists, 3,000 volunteers.
Reliant helps Trees of Houston by planting and mulching trees to benefit our community and environment. Trees for Houston donates bald cypress seedlings to area schools and civic organizations.
Since 2002, we have conducted an annual campaign to raise money for United Way programs, which support initiatives in more than a dozen states. While each United Way affiliate chooses how to use its funds, common focus areas include helping children and youth succeed, strengthening and supporting families, promoting self sufficiency, building vital and safe neighborhoods and supporting the elderly.
