The electrical appliances connected in your home can add up to a significant
portion of your overall energy usage. If your appliances are old or aren’t
particularly energy efficient, you may be using more energy than necessary.
Selecting and using appliances
Yellow and black Energy Guide labels are attached to many appliances to help
consumers find the most energy efficient appliances. Created by the Federal
Trade Commission, these labels are required on all refrigerators, freezers,
dishwashers, water heaters, clothes washers, air conditioners and furnaces.
These labels are considered only as guides to buying appliances. The actual
cost to operate an appliance will vary depending on how the appliance is used,
energy rates in the area and the appliance’s location in a home.
