Through our partnership with the Houston Texans, three great programs benefit the community where we live and work.

We’re proud to sponsor the Reliant Energy Power Players Program, which supports after-school flag football and homework programs for the Greater Houston–area Boys and Girls Clubs.

Houston-area high school student athletes receive $1,000 scholarships as part of the Reliant Energy Scholarship for Champions—Powering Strong Minds and Bodies program. The winners are selected by Reliant Energy and the Houston Texans based on both academic and athletic performance as well as strong leadership and commitment to ethics.

Through our partnership with Rebuilding Together Houston, Reliant brings Texans players and our employee volunteers together to rebuild low-income households in inner-city Houston.

• Power of Art Judge some of the best little rodeo artwork this side of the Pecos. From March 9th through April 6th, elementary students will showcase their artwork and you can cast your vote online.
• Power Pics We'll be there to capture the moment. Just stop by to see us at the rodeo and then view and share your rodeo photos with friends and family. It's easy and convenient.

Another exciting Reliant event too good to miss:

• Scholarship for Champions We are proud to award $1,000 scholarships to eight Houston-area high school student athletes.

This partnership gives us the chance to participate in community activities such as Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together Greater Dallas (RTGD). Reliant has helped build houses for families in North Texas and donated free electricity for a year to each family.

We also work with the Rangers and RTGD to educate customers on energy efficiency, which helps them save on their electricity bills. Reliant has teamed up with RTGD to install energy-efficient air conditioning units in 10 to 15 homes each year. And through the Home Runs for Homes program, for every home run the team hits at Rangers Ballpark, Reliant donates $100 to benefit home improvement projects designed to improve energy efficiency.

Reliant Energy is now in our sixth year of sponsorship of the Corpus Christi Hooks baseball team. We are proud to be the official energy sponsor for the team and their partner in various community programs.

Reliant Energy sponsors numerous events for the Corpus Christi Hooks, including Team Card, the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration and the School's Out program.

The Dr Pepper StarCenters, located in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, provide general skating, hockey lessons and figure skating lessons. Reliant Energy sponsors skating clinics for children in local youth organizations and schools. We also conduct Teach Me Energy presentations to youth organizations, educating them on how they can help save energy.

Through the Power Blast Program, for every home run hit by an Astros player at Minute Maid Park during the 2008 season, Reliant will donate $250 to the Houston-area Boys and Girls Club. In 2007, we donated $17,500 for 70 home runs, plus $2,750 from the Home Run Derby for a total of $20,250. Since the inception of the Power Blast Program in 2005, Reliant has donated over $71,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston.

Reliant invites customers, employees and military personnel out to enjoy a Colts game every year. We value our community involvement in San Angelo.

Reliant Park has quickly become a landmark here in Houston, hosting more than 200 events each year. In addition to providing Houston with a community attraction, Reliant has embarked upon an initiative that will help make the Park more energy efficient, lowering the county’s electric bill. The Greening of Reliant Park campaign is part of a much larger cause to help the city of Houston become more energy efficient, save resources and save money all at the same time.

This year, Reliant Energy and the Park’s building management company, SMG, partnered together to help plant a community garden at a local Boys and Girls Club. The garden will consist of various vegetables that will be available to those in the surrounding neighborhood. After the vegetables have matured, the Boys and Girls Club and Reliant Energy will open the garden, and members of the community may come and pick the vegetables to take home to their families.
